Pakistan Cricket Board denies offering Shaheen Shah Afridi vice-captaincy for T20 World Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refuted claims that the game’s governing body had extended an offer to fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi for the vice-captaincy role in the T20 World Cup squad.

In a statement, the PCB clarified that while the selection committee had discussed the vice-captaincy slot, no formal offer had been made to anyone.

Earlier reports from PCB sources suggested that Afridi had been approached for the vice-captaincy but declined the offer.

Sources indicated that Afridi expressed dissatisfaction over being removed from the captaincy, stating his intent to contribute as a fast bowler and fully support the new captain.

Afridi had previously led the team in a T20 series against New Zealand following Babar Azam’s removal after the ODI World Cup disappointment.

However, he was granted only one series to showcase his leadership skills before being replaced after the team’s loss in the series.
