Pakistani singer and Indian writer collaborate to tell Udham Singh’s story

Schumaila Rehmat Hussain and Jai Singh upgraded the art of storytelling, leaving audience in trance

Pakistani renowned singer Schumaila Rehmat Hussain released his latest album on Thursday titled “Gul Mohar se”. The artist while elaborating on the eight songs of her new album revealed that an Indian writer and storyteller Jai Singh collaborated with her and told the story of Udham Singh in one of her songs.

Speaking with Minute Mirror Hussain said, “It took me one and half years to make this album. All of the poetry is by Ali Abbas Zaidi and the music is by Faraz Rizvi.” Explaining the title of the album Hussain said that she took the inspiration from the flower, Gul Mohar, as it is that one flower that blooms with the increase in the intensity of sunlight.

Joining the music launch virtually Jai Singh said that when he listened to the song Rafiqo the story of Udham Singh, who is known for taking revenge for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that happened in Amritsar in 1919, came to his mind and he discussed that with Hussain and decided to put that story in the song in the form of narration.

He said that rules and borders can stop him from coming to a country but no one can stop his voice to reach there. He wishes to visit Pakistan one day and to meet the artists here.

Sarmad Sultan Khoosat also spoke at the event and expressed a wish to make videos of the songs.

“When I heard the songs, they went straight into my heart and I was in a trance somewhere far from the world. I wish that I could get a chance to produce the videos of these songs,” said Khoosat.

While commenting on the collaboration of two artists Khoosat said that it is very sad for the art and the artists to seek permission to collaborate for such amazing work. Whatever happens between the political leaders, artists should be allowed to portray their work regardless of borders, he further added.

Many celebrities from the music industry attended the launch of the album at Olomopolo arts and media organizations and wished the musician.
