People will boycott polio vaccine if restoration of peace fails, JUI-F Minister warns

fifth polio virus case detected in Karachi

If the government and security institutions fail to restore peace, the people of former tribal areas would boycott the polio vaccination campaign, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazlur Rehman’s (JUI-F) Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Maulana Abdul Shakoor has warned.

In a video on social media, the federal minister said that the people of the former FATA would not accept the measures taken by the government especially polio vaccination if there was a failure in providing peace to them.

He also said that the boycott could go further to civil disobedience like the one started by Imran Khan. He added that JUI-F was being compelled to such a situation but it didn’t favour such protest measures.

Stressing the security institutions to restore peace before things get out of control, Maulana Abdul Shakoor addressing a delegation of party leaders and workers also spoke about JUI-F leader Qari Samiuddin in North Waziristan and last year’s killing of Maulana Abdul Salam in Bajaur.

On the other hand, according to reports, terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also on the rise where policemen are being targeted and extortion has also increased.

Since this year, 65 policemen have been martyred and dozens injured in terrorist attacks.

According to reports, in the last five months several policemen, including an SHO, have been targeted by terrorists in Peshawar, while grenades have been hurled at more than five police posts and police mobile vans have also been targeted.

The incidents of extortion in the province have also been on increase, where political and business personalities are getting threats for allowances. A grenade was hurled at the house of ANP Senator Hidayatullah for refusing to pay an allowance.

According to the police, 101 terrorists were killed this year. Police also claimed that the terrorists involved in all major attacks have been tracked down.
