PHC rejects PTI’s appeal about elections

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has turned down Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) request for conducting the general elections under judicial supervision. Justice Shakeel Ahmed dismissed PTI’s plea and will issue a detailed written decision later.

PTI’s lawyer, Moazzam Ali Khan, argued in court that the party is not experiencing a fair playing field for the election. He expressed a lack of trust in the Election Commission, Returning Officers, Deputy Returning Officers, and the current bureaucracy.

Moazzam highlighted the challenges of achieving transparency in the election under the existing bureaucratic management. Therefore, PTI sought the elections to be conducted under the oversight of judicial law officers.

Following the arguments, the Peshawar High Court had reserved its decision on PTI’s petition. It is important to note that PTI had specifically requested the elections in Pakhtunkhwa to be supervised by the judiciary.
