On Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a visit to Zardari House in Islamabad to extend his congratulations to President-elect Asif Ali Zardari on securing his position as President of Pakistan for the second time.

President-elect Asif Ali Zardari warmly received Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif upon his arrival at Zardari’s residence. During the meeting, the Prime Minister conveyed his best wishes to President-elect Asif Ali Zardari.

In return, President-elect Zardari expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the support extended by the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) during the presidential election.

Earlier in the day, Asif Ali Zardari, the joint candidate of PPP and PML-N, emerged victorious as the 14th president of Pakistan. Zardari secured a majority of votes from the electoral college, comprised of members from parliament and provincial assemblies, making him eligible to assume the presidential office for the second time in Pakistan’s parliamentary history.

Zardari received 411 votes, while the candidate backed by the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), Mehmood Khan Achakzai, only managed to garner 181 votes.

During the joint session of the National Assembly and Senate, the coalition government’s nominee secured 255 votes, while the SIC-backed candidate received just 119 votes.
