PM Shehbaz increases Ramazan Package to Rs12.5b

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced an increase in the Ramazan Package budget from Rs7.5 billion to Rs12.5 billion on Sunday. Additionally, he has instructed to expand its coverage across the country to assist the masses during the upcoming holy month.

The PM’s Office Media Wing disclosed that mobile units, in collaboration with Utility Stores and the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), will offer essential food items at subsidized rates. Initially, 1200 mobile points and 300 permanent relief centers will be established.

The prime minister stressed the importance of providing maximum relief to the underprivileged during Ramazan, offering various food items at reduced prices compared to the market rates.

Furthermore, designated trucks will distribute food supplies to different locations, employing GPS technology for efficient delivery. A video will be released to guide users of the mobile app, while a dashboard will oversee the sale of mobile flour through digital technology.

Earlier, on March 7, the prime minister had announced a subsidized Ramazan package worth Rs7.5 billion, aiming to provide food items to 39.6 million people during the holy month at discounted rates of 30 percent. The items covered under BISP include flour, rice, pulses, ghee, sugar, syrup, and milk, with subsidies ranging from Rs77 per kg for flour to Rs70 for ghee.
