PML-N leaders seek removal of Amir Muqam, Murtaza Javed Abbasi

Internal conflicts have put the PML-N in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in trouble.

Amir Muqam, the provincial president of the PML-N, and Murtaza Javed Abbasi, the general secretary of the party, have been called for removal by several politicians who hold positions in the ruling coalition due to their lack of trust in the leadership of their party in KP.

This demand was made just before the upcoming elections for the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa legislatures. Election Day in Punjab has been set, however, no decision has been made about KP yet.

The dismissal of Province President Amir Muqam and Secretary General Murtaza Javed from their positions was sought in a statement by Ali Khan Yousafzai, the Central Information Secretary of the Muslim League-N Youth Wing.

According to him, a party gathering showed trust in the party’s central leadership, which includes Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif.

The meeting was held in the Peshawar home of former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, according to Ali Khan’s statement.

Together with a few other provincial party officials, the meeting included former National Assembly member and governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Abbasi as well as a few unhappy members from other districts in the province.

The meeting, according to Ali Khan Yousafzai, who was also there, expressed worry over the ‘hardline’ of the party’s ideological workers.

“Amir Maqam has turned the Muslim League into the Amir Maqam League, and the party’s founders are being disregarded.”

In the meeting of the ideological workers, it was agreed that Amir Maqam no longer holds the office of the president because the party has selected him, according to Pakistan Muslim League-N member Arbab Khazar Hayat Khan, who was present.

Before leaving the PML-N, former chief minister Sardar Mehtab Abbasi voiced his criticism of the party’s leadership.

According to certain party officials, Murtaza Javed Abbasi and Sardar Mehtab seek to maintain their influence over PML-N issues in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As Javed Abbasi received the PML-N ticket in his place, Sardar Mehtab Abbasi chose not to run in the 2018 general elections.

While Mehtab Abbasi was considerably distanced from actual politics after the 2013 elections, Murtaza Javed Abbasi is thought to be close to the party’s top organizer Maryam Nawaz.

The Pakistan Muslim League-N has never given Khyber Pakhtunkhwa its full attention, and this pattern is to blame for the province’s lack of leadership.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hazara Division, the PML-N is clearly present, and in this, the province’s lone stronghold, there are stark disparities between Sardar Mehtab Abbasi and Murtaza Javed Abbasi.

But, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has hurt the PML-N in the Hazara Division, thus the most recent divisions within the party won’t matter much
