Islamabad: The polio virus has also been confirmed in an environmental sample from the federal capital.
According to health department officials, initially, the polio virus was found in an environmental sample from the Loralai district of Balochistan. Now, the virus has also tested positive in an environmental sample from Islamabad and it has been confirmed in environmental samples from Rawalpindi as well.
Officials further stated that the polio virus has been confirmed in 176 environmental samples from 45 districts across the country and the administrations of these districts have been alerted.
It is noteworthy that so far, four children in Pakistan have been paralyzed and one has died due to the polio virus.
