Polio virus detected in environmental samples of Karachi

For the first time, the presence of the polio virus has been detected in environmental samples taken from District South and Mirpur Khas in Karachi.

In April, officials confirmed the presence of the virus in environmental samples from ten different districts across the country.

The polio virus was also identified in environmental samples collected from Kemari, Hyderabad, and Jamshoro districts of Karachi, as well as from Sukkur and Jacobabad.

Furthermore, traces of the polio virus were found in environmental samples from Quetta, Chaman, and Naseerabad districts in Balochistan.

It is worth mentioning that the polio virus has now been detected in environmental samples from a total of 33 districts in Pakistan this year. Additionally, two cases of polio have been reported in the country thus far in 2021.
