President Alvi granted approval for reconstitution of National Economic Council

President Dr. Arif Alvi gave his permission for the National Economic Council’s (NEC) reorganization. The NEC is a constitutional body tasked with determining the nation’s economic situation and developing plans to promote equitable development and regional harmony.

The president reconstituted this 13-member panel by invoking Article 156 of the Constitution.

The chief ministers of all four provinces, as well as representatives from the interim federal and provincial governments, will serve as members of the NEC, which will be presided over by the prime minister.

In the council, interim Provincial Power Minister SM Tanvir will represent Punjab, and interim Sindh Finance Minister Muhammad Yunus Dhagha will represent the province, according to a release from the President House press office.

Ahmed Rasool Bangash, the interim finance minister from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Amjad Rasheed, his counterpart from Balochistan, will also be council members.

The NEC will also have slots for federal ministers of planning, communication, railway, maritime affairs, power, and petroleum.
