PS:Dunya News

Recent actions taken by the Prime Minister have stirred unease among officials and staff of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). According to sources, a list prepared within the Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) section of the FBR has caused concern as it includes not only several dozen senior officers but also junior officers swelling the numbers into the hundreds.

Following the Prime Minister’s directive to place twelve key officers aiding in tax evasion and smuggling under administrative detention, an atmosphere of fear and intimidation pervades the FBR ranks. The sources further reveal that the list compiled within the I&I section now extends to include junior officers raising the tally into the hundreds.

The Prime Minister’s actions have also prompted widespread speculation and anxiety among FBR officials with senior officers being reassigned and discussions regarding transfers ongoing across all offices. Many in Islamabad are reaching out to friends to ascertain whether their names appear on the list or not adding to the atmosphere of uncertainty.

According to reports, officers with good reputations are being placed in Category A, earmarked for important positions while those in Category C are to undergo investigations for possible malpractice. Those falling under Category B will be relegated to less significant roles while being monitored closely.

The Prime Minister’s bold move has led to half of the FBR’s officials being contacted by the Intelligence and Investigation section, all of whom have voiced their support for the Prime Minister’s action deeming it a step in the right direction and worthy of commendation.

This development underscores the government’s commitment to combat corruption and malpractice within its ranks signalling a new era of accountability and transparency. As the Prime Minister continues to implement reforms and crackdowns, the FBR and other governmental bodies are poised to undergo significant changes with integrity and efficiency at the forefront of their objectives.
