Prime Minister’s youth laptop scheme

Under the Youth Program, the Prime Minister decided to distribute one lakh laptops among students. The online registration for this initiative is active now. On Wednesday, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Youth Affairs, Shiza Fatima Khawaja, informed the official news agency, APP, that the laptop scheme, which was initiated in Punjab province in 2013 but had been discontinued for the past four years, has now been revived.

Shiza Fatima stated, “This year, laptops will be distributed on merit among one lakh students from top educational institutions.” She also revealed that during the tenure of former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, as many as five lakh laptops were given to students in the federal government from 2013 to 2018.

“In the upcoming fiscal year, the scope of the laptop scheme will be expanded, and in addition to providing free laptops to the youth, provisions for loans will also be suggested for this purpose on easy terms,” she added.

According to Shiza Fatima, under the Prime Minister’s Skillful Program, 70% of the training will be provided in various high-tech fields, while 30% will focus on traditional skills.

“Thirty-three youngsters, who have demonstrated outstanding abilities in various fields, have been included in the National Youth Council. Through this council, they receive assistance in understanding and resolving youth-related issues,” she concluded.

    1. Do students really need laptops for their studies?

    2. If yes, what sort of requirements should laptops have?

    My comments:

    1. Yes, students today indeed need laptops for their studies. Laptops provide students with a powerful tool for research, writing papers, creating presentations, and accessing online learning resources. They offer a portable and convenient platform for studying, allowing students to work both in and outside the classroom. Laptops also enable students to collaborate with peers, engage in virtual classrooms, and participate in online discussions. With the increasing integration of technology in education, laptops have become essential tools that enhance learning opportunities and equip students with the digital skills necessary for their academic and professional success.

    2. Laptops for students should meet certain requirements to effectively support their educational needs. Firstly, they should have sufficient processing power and memory to handle various tasks and run educational software smoothly. Decent display size and resolution are important for comfortable reading and viewing content. Long battery life is essential for uninterrupted use during classes and study sessions. Laptops should also have a reliable and fast internet connection capability to access online resources. Sufficient storage capacity allows students to store files, projects, and research materials. Additionally, lightweight and portable designs make it easier for students to carry their laptops between classes. Finally, durable construction and adequate security features ensure the longevity and protection of the device and its data.

Absolutely yes, students need laptops during his / her studies. As for my concern, through all the stages of education, students use many different resources to learn more effectively. The laptop is now an essential school for any college / University student. Laptops provide students with the flexibility and freedom they require to work on assignments, quizzes, presentations, research, and helping books with the help of the Internet.

It depends on the program of the students. If you are from the Commerce Department laptop should have, SAP, Microsoft Office, Turnitin, Canva, SPSS, and Researchgate. For other students related to Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and other programs laptops should have Microsoft Office.
