Promotions soar as three Pakistan Navy officers achieve ‘Rear Admiral’ rank

Three accomplished commodores of the Pakistan Navy have been swiftly promoted to the esteemed rank of Rear Admiral, effective immediately.

One of the newly promoted Rear Admirals is Mazhar Mahmood Malik, a distinguished officer commissioned in the Marine Engineering Branch of the Pakistan Navy in 1992. Rear Admiral Malik boasts an impressive academic background, having graduated from the Pakistan Navy War College Lahore, National Defence University Islamabad, and holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).

Throughout his illustrious naval career, Rear Admiral Mazhar Mahmood has held pivotal roles, including Fleet Marine Engineering Officer at Fleet Headquarters, Deputy MD at Pakistan Navy Dockyard, and Chief Staff Officer to Commander Logistics. Currently, he assumes the crucial position of Managing Director at Pakistan Navy Dockyard, Karachi.

Another accomplished officer, Rear Admiral Shahzad Hamid, commissioned in the Operations Branch of the Pakistan Navy in 1993, specializes as a Naval Aircraft Pilot. Rear Admiral Hamid brings a wealth of experience in Command and Staff appointments, including the command of a P-3C aircraft Squadron, serving as Commander of Naval Aviation, and fulfilling the role of Chief Staff Officer to Commander North. His new assignment places him as the Director General of Naval Intelligence. Rear Admiral Shahzad Hamid is a decorated officer, honoured with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Tamgha-i-Basalat awards.

The third officer elevated to the rank of Rear Admiral is Azhar Mahmood, commissioned in the Operations Branch in 1993. Rear Admiral Mahmood, a graduate of prestigious institutions such as the Pakistan Navy War College Lahore and Defence Services Command and Staff College Bangladesh, boasts extensive experience in Command and Staff roles.

His diverse appointments include commands of various naval vessels and squadrons, Chief of Staff to the Commander of Combined Task Force-150 at HQ NAVCENT Bahrain and Director of Foreign Military Collaboration at NHQ. Rear Admiral Azhar Mahmood has been appointed as the Commandant of PN War College in Lahore, marking another significant stride in his esteemed career. He is a proud recipient of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).
