Protest against abduction of Pirya Kumari sparks nationwide outcry

A large number of individuals from diverse backgrounds took to the streets in numerous cities and towns across the province to express their outrage over the abduction of Pirya Kumari. People affiliated with various political parties, activists, journalists, poets, writers, and members of civil society organized demonstrations in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Tando Mohammad Khan, Mithi, Tando Bago, Matli, Khairpur, Kandhkot, Ghotki, Talhar, Jhudo, Panu Akil, Kashmore, Sakrand, Hala, Bhan Saeedabad, Dadu, Mehar, Tando Adam, Jamshoro, and other towns to demand the prompt recovery of the young Hindu girl who was abducted three years ago from Sukkur city on August 18, 2021.

Pirya Kumari, then a 9-year-old girl, disappeared while distributing ‘Sabeel’ during a mourning procession on Ashur in Sukkur town. Protesters, carrying banners and placards, voiced their frustration with the police’s failure to locate her. They accused the police teams, formed by the Sindh government, of ineffectiveness despite conducting raids in various parts of Sindh and Balochistan. Allegations surfaced that influential individuals from a Sukkur-based Syed Family were behind her abduction.

Demanding the establishment of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) under a senior judge for the safe recovery of the girl, protesters expressed concerns about the safety of Hindu communities residing across Sindh due to the police’s inability to locate Ms. Kumari.

Meanwhile, the release of Pirya Kumari remained a trending topic on various social media platforms, with people from around the world joining the campaign and calling for her swift recovery.
