PTA reports 17% surge in revenue, reaching Rs850 billion

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reported a 17% increase in revenue, reaching Rs850 billion compared to the previous year, as revealed by Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeezur Rehman during a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar.

Rehman presented the annual report, set to be available on the PTA website on January 29. He highlighted that cellular service accessibility in the country has reached 90%, with 192 million cellular consumers and 130 million high-speed broadband users in 2023.

Prime Minister Kakar commended the PTA’s efforts in extending mobile and internet services to the public.

In December 2022, then Federal IT and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque projected that each Pakistani would soon have a mobile phone, and by November 13, 2022, mobile phone subscribers had increased from 160 million to 195 million.

The PTA receives subscriber data from mobile sellers and telecom operators and quarterly releases relevant information.

Recently, Netblocks reported social media platform outages during the PTI’s virtual rally, but the PTA clarified that internet disruptions were due to a ‘web management system upgrade’ by internet operators, spanning two to three months.
