Punjab agriculture officials appeal for Namaz-e-Istisqa to boost wheat production amidst climatic challenges

Amidst concerns over a 15% shortfall in wheat crop supplies and a prolonged dry spell impacting agriculture in Punjab, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Ishtiaq Hassan has issued a heartfelt plea for divine intervention. The Directorate General Agriculture, Extension & AR Punjab, has initiated a comprehensive campaign to achieve the targeted wheat crop production of 25.6 million tons on 16.5 million acres.

However, adverse weather conditions, including dense fog and cold temperatures, have posed challenges to crop growth, especially in rain-fed areas.

Recognizing the significance of divine blessings in agricultural success, Dr. Ishtiaq Hassan has called for a special prayer, Namaz-e-Istisqa, scheduled for Friday, January 12, 2024. This prayer aims to seek the favor of Allah Almighty for improved wheat and gram crop production, crucial for the prosperity of the country. The heartfelt request extends to all Division, District, and Tehsil Headquarters, urging them to organize the special prayer and circulate the message for announcements in mosques.

This prayerful appeal goes beyond official circles, inviting offices related to agriculture, notables, and farmers to actively participate in this sacred event. The initiative highlights the acknowledgment that, in the face of climatic challenges, a harmonious blend of practical measures and spiritual supplication is essential for the well-being of the agricultural community.

To ensure the success of this collective endeavor, a compliance report is expected by January 13, 2024, showcasing the commitment of Punjab’s agriculture authorities to addressing agricultural concerns through a unified and prayerful approach.
