Punjab reports first congo virus case of 2024

The Punjab Health Department announced that a 44-year-old individual named Imran from Attock has succumbed to the Congo virus, marking the first instance of the virus being recorded in Punjab in 2024.

Over the past four years, Punjab has recorded a total of 16 cases and six fatalities attributed to the virus, according to provincial health authorities.

This recent incident constitutes the fourth case of Congo virus infection and the first fatality reported in the region.

The Punjab Health Department emphasizes that the Congo virus poses a significant threat as it can be transmitted from animals to humans.

In 2020, Punjab documented 10 cases of the virus resulting in one death, while in 2022, three fatalities were reported alongside unspecified cases.

Similarly, in 2023, Punjab recorded five confirmed cases of the virus, leading to three deaths, as confirmed by health officials.
