Punjab’s fresh approach to tackle inflation

The Punjab government has recently unveiled a novel strategy aimed at alleviating the burden of inflation on its citizens. This initiative involves a sweeping crackdown on individuals engaged in the illicit stockpiling and smuggling of essential commodities across the region. To execute this plan, the Directorate of Industries has dispatched a formal directive to 36 Deputy Commissioners (DCs) across Punjab.

In accordance with this directive, comprehensive lists detailing individuals involved in the sugar, rice, pulses, fertilizer, and other essential commodities businesses have been furnished to the Deputy Commissioners. Simultaneously, orders have been issued to seal the storage facilities of 40 identified individuals implicated in hoarding activities.

However, amidst these efforts, concerns have emerged regarding the exclusion of prominent hoarders from the government’s scrutiny. Allegations have surfaced suggesting that certain influential individuals have managed to evade detection, thus eluding accountability. Meanwhile, aggrieved businessmen have voiced their grievances, asserting that the government’s focus should squarely target the apprehension of major hoarders and smugglers.
