Queen Rania criticizes western countries for having ‘double standards’

Queen Rania of Jordan strongly criticized Western leaders for what she perceives as a significant double standard in their response to the deadly Israeli airstrikes in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis caused by the blockade. She mentioned that more than 5,700 Palestinians, including a large number of children, women, and the elderly, have lost their lives in the air raids, with over 16,200 wounded. Hospitals are facing the risk of collapse due to a shortage of supplies resulting from the Israeli blockade since October 7, following Hamas attacks.

In an interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour, Queen Rania, who has Palestinian heritage, expressed disappointment in the world’s response to this unfolding catastrophe. She highlighted the contrast between the immediate global support for Israel’s right to self-defense when attacks occurred on October 7 and the current silence in the face of the ongoing crisis. She emphasized that this silence, especially regarding the lack of calls for a ceasefire, is being perceived as complicity in the Arab world.

Queen Rania pointed out the stark double standard in international reactions, questioning why it might be considered wrong to kill an entire family at gunpoint but seemingly acceptable to shell them to death. She described this double standard as “shocking to the Arab world.”
