Rain in Balochistan: 62 including 22 women, 24 children dead

Torrential rains wreak havoc in Balochistan and have so far caused the deaths of 62 including 22 women and 24 children, the provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) claimed.

According to PDMA, 48 people sustained injuries in rain-related incidents whereas more than 218 houses sustained infrastructure damages, six bridges and two dams were also damaged and 436 livestock got killed. The rain also damaged the agricultural lands destroying ready crops.

Lasbela was hit badly by floods. According to the deputy commissioner, flood water even entered residential areas.

Quetta, Loralai, Sibi, Harnai, Kohlu and Zhob have been affected the most due to rains whereas other areas also received rains in heavy amounts causing difficulties for the citizens.

Federal Minister for Climate Change had called it a national tragedy and told that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has been prepared for a national monsoon contingency plan.

Rescue workers as well as Pakistan Air Force (PAF) have been relentlessly carrying out rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas of the province.

The spokesman of PAF said that relief goods including rations, tents, medicines, drinking water and blankets have been provided to the affected.
