Recent closure of internet and its impact on students

The unpeaceful situation created as the result of the apprehension of PTI Leader Imran Khan outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on 9 May, Tuesday led to my disorganized situation which includes the closure of schools, colleges, and even universities, as well as the nationwide Internet shutdown leading to disconnection among people on social media like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and other social media platforms.

The Internet blockage swept across the country, which turns almost 125 million Pakistanis into a state of Digital Isolation, especially people who were totally dependent on the Internet for fulfilling their needs and livelihoods and people who get their daily wages through online work, etc.

In response to the current situation, All public and private schools in Lahore remained closed on Wednesday, and Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad will also remain shut for at least one day. With all these announcements, the unbalanced and digital disconnectivity spread throughout the country blocking the Internet available facilities for learners and students.

The mobile Internet services remain blocked in the country for three days. Besides affecting online marketers and various sectors of the economy, the Internet blockage also adversely affected the students as they were unable to access the internet’s knowledge and academic information and thus created hindrances and obstacles in their learning and students were unable to watch current news about Country’s circumstances and several events taking place in Lahore, Islamabad, and other spots.
