Recep Tayyip Erdogan hospital, US surgeons perform 49 free surgeries

Surgeons at Muzaffargarh’s Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital, in collaboration with four visiting American colleagues, have achieved a milestone by conducting 49 spine and knee replacement surgeries within the past fortnight, all provided free of cost.

Among the joint operations, 26 focused on knee replacement procedures, 15 on spine surgeries, and eight on sports-related issues. The initiative primarily aimed at benefiting economically challenged patients from remote areas who otherwise would not have access to such costly treatments.

Bakhtawar Shafi, a patient who underwent free spine surgery at the hospital, expressed relief, stating that she had been suffering for years but couldn’t afford the treatment. This initiative has provided her with a chance to lead a normal life.

Amjad Mukhtar, another patient with severe back pain, shared a similar sentiment, emphasizing the positive impact of the free surgery he received at the Erdogan hospital.

Halimah, hailing from a remote area and enduring excruciating knee pain, found hope through the free knee replacement surgery, which was beyond her financial means.

The visiting American surgeons expressed satisfaction with the success of the collaborative surgical initiative and pledged to continue cooperating with the local facility in the future. Their goal is to provide relief to more economically disadvantaged patients in far-flung areas.

Dr Gohar Nawaz Khan, Head of the Orthopedic Department at Erdogan hospital, extended gratitude to the American surgeons and encouraged ongoing cooperation to maximize the benefits for a greater number of patients. He also commended various hospital departments for their collective contribution to this people-friendly initiative, including housekeeping, maintenance, supply chain, biomedical, IT, general store, finance, operating theatre teams, and CRD.
