Recep Tayyip Erdogan re-elected Turkish President for third consecutive term

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been re-elected for the third consecutive term in the final round of presidential elections.

Voting in the final phase of the presidential election in Turkiye continued from 8 am to 5 pm local time today.

Counting of votes is underway after polling and so far 98.06 percent of the votes have been counted.

According to the results so far, President Erdogan is leading with 52.12 percent of the vote, while opposition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu got 47.88 percent of the vote.

Erdogan has won the second round of elections, Turkish state media reported. Supporters across Turkiye took to the streets to celebrate Erdogan’s victory, while President Erdogan also addressed thousands of supporters in Istanbul.

In Turkiye’s presidential election held on May 14, voter turnout was 90 percent, but the president could not be decided because no candidate got 50 percent of the vote.

In the first round, Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a lead over his opponent candidate, but he could not get 50 percent of the votes. He had managed to get 49.52 percent of the votes in the first round.

His opponent, Kamal Kilicdaroglu, came second with 44.89 percent of the vote, while Sinan Ognan came third with 5.17 percent of the vote, while Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s coalition bloc won a clear majority in the parliamentary elections.
