Remembering Ustad Tasadduq Ali Khan on his eighth death anniversary

Legendary musician recorded and produced hundreds of songs for radio, television, film and stage shows

Born on April 10, 1939 in Shaam Chaurasi, India, Ustad Tasadduq Ali Khan started his musical career along with his elder brothers Ustad Nazakat Ali Khan and Ustad Salamat Ali Khan at the age of seven as a talented child star. After the family’s migration to Pakistan in 1947, he lived in Multan and got his education in Lahore.

Ustad Tasadduq Ali Khan, who also served as Station Director, Radio Pakistan, Skardu, died in Lahore on December 23, 2013. He recorded and produced hundreds of songs for radio, television, film and stage shows. A highly talented artist, Ustad Tasadduq Ali Khan used to compose songs and could also sing very well himself. He loved to try different methods and techniques while composing songs.

He is credited for having introduced on radio music greats such as Ghulam Ali, Afshan, Reshman, Pervez Mehdi, Husain Bakhsh Gullu, Rajab Ali, Asif Javed, Samar Iqbal, Shaukat Ali, Mehnaz, Anwar Rafi, Ali Raza, Naheed Akhtar, Humaira Channa and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. With melody queen Nur Jahan as the artiste, he produced several songs that enthralled the Pakistani nation during 1965 war.

Not only was he a celebrated playback singer but also a gifted ghazal singer. He is fondly remembered for his hit duets he sang with Mehnaz, Shamsa Kanwal, Saira Naseem, Atya Jahan, Afshan, Tarannum Naz and Naheed Akhtar.

Ustad Tasadduq Ali Khan received Pakistan Golden Jubilee PBC Award, Graduate Award, All Pakistan Music Conference Awards, Ustad Nazakat Ali Khan-Salamat Ali Khan Award, and World Performing Arts Awards for his meritorious services in the field of music.
