Russia claims to shoot down US-supplied missiles fired by Ukraine

On Tuesday, Russia claimed to have intercepted and destroyed six US-supplied tactical missiles fired by Ukraine, with some reportedly downed over Crimea.

The Russian defense ministry announced the destruction of six Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) rockets without specifying the location of the interceptions.

The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, stated that one missile was downed near Simferopol, warning against handling any undetonated submunitions.

There was no confirmation of damage caused by the missiles in Crimea. Ukrainian officials did not immediately comment on the incident.

Last February, the US acknowledged supplying ATACMS missiles to Ukraine, with additional weapons expected to arrive following approval by President Biden.
