Shah Mehmood Qureshi warns of potential arrests under Section 144, raises concerns over political rallies

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Vice Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), voiced concerns about potential arrests under the guise of Section 144, warning that the party’s candidates and workers could face repercussions.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, accompanied by PTI founder Imran Khan, emphasized their application for the right to vote from jail within the designated timeframe.

Expressing apprehension about the implications of Article 144 on political rallies, he questioned how PML-N and the People’s Party would conduct gatherings if the section is passed.

While acknowledging the need for restrictions on the display of arms under Section 144, Qureshi suggested that it could be misused to search and apprehend candidates and workers discreetly.

He underscored the importance of people’s participation in the upcoming elections despite challenges, highlighting the responsibility of the army to maintain public order.

Qureshi expressed reservations about the Election Commission’s effectiveness and commended efforts to improve relations with Iran, advocating for diplomatic solutions over extreme measures.

Despite facing obstacles, Qureshi maintained optimism about the public’s ability to exercise their voting rights in the face of potential adversity.
