Shahid Khaqan Abbasi opens up on skipping Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming rally

Former Prime Minister and dissident PML-N leader, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, revealed the reasons for his absence from Nawaz Sharif’s welcome rally at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore.

Speaking to the media outside the accountability court, the former prime minister explained that he no longer held a senior leadership position in the party and didn’t feel the need to attend every event.

In response to a question about his non-participation in Nawaz Sharif’s homecoming rally, Shahid Khaqan stated, “I am not a senior leader of the party, and it is not necessary to attend every event.”

Regarding the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the former premier reiterated his allegations that NAB had paralyzed the country. He said that he had been appearing before the courts for five years, but there had been little progress in his case, with only dates being set.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi suggested the installation of surveillance cameras in the courts so that the public could witness the trials firsthand.

He once again called for the abolishment of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), contending that the institution was being used for political manipulation.

Nawaz Sharif, the three-time Prime Minister and leader of the PML-N, returned to Pakistan last Saturday after a self-imposed exile in London that had lasted for four years. He had departed for London in 2019.

After landing in Lahore, the PML-N chief addressed a historic rally at Minar-e-Pakistan.
