Sheikh Rasheed petitions ATC for a medical examination

Sheikh Rasheed, the Awami Muslim League’s head and former interior minister, has petitioned the anti-terrorism court (ATC) for a medical examination.

The motion, filed through his lawyer Sardar Shehzad, asks the court to transfer Sheikh Rasheed to a government hospital, claiming Rasheed’s heath is worsening and that he is not permitted to meet his lawyer.

The petition also requests that the court order a medical examination and acquire the medical reports of the imprisoned former interior minister owing to health concerns.

Additionally, the ATC issued a contempt notice to the jail superintendent for allegedly preventing Sheikh Rasheed from meeting with his lawyer, summoning him on January 26.

Previously, an anti-terrorism court in
Rawalpindi remanded Sheikh Rasheed in custody for 14 days in connection with the May 9 riots case.
