Sindh High Court prohibits authorities from suspending internet services till general elections

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued an order directing the appropriate authorities to provide uninterrupted internet connection to all citizens till the general elections on February 8.

In response to a petition filed by advocate and human rights activist Jibran Nasir against the country’s frequent suspension of internet services, the court prohibited authorities from suspending internet services and set a January 29 deadline for authorities to respond.

As political campaigning escalates ahead of the approaching elections, customers have reported frequent internet failures in recent days. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) blamed a statewide internet outage on January 20 on a “technical fault” in its optical fiber network, which was quickly resolved.
