South Africa continues winning streak in World Cup, defeats Bangladesh by 149 runs

On Tuesday, South Africa achieved yet another brilliant victory in the ICC World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh by 149 runs in the at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Quinton de Kock displayed excellent batting, hitting 174 runs to lead South Africa to a 149-run win against Bangladesh. De Kock’s superb knock is the highest individual score in the present ODI World Cup. South Africa’s middle order helped them reach a massive score of 382-5 at the Wankhede Stadium after opting to bat.

De Kock surpassed Virat Kohli to become the tournament’s leading scorer with his third century. He seemed to be on track for a double century before being removed following a sensational inning that included seven sixes and 15 boundaries. Even when he left, Klaasen and David Miller, who scored 34 off only 15 balls, continued to pile on the runs for Bangladesh. South Africa’s last ten-over blitz of 144 runs, along with Klaasen’s 90 off 49 balls, set a formidable goal for Bangladesh.

Afterwards, South Africa’s incredible pace attack decimated Bangladesh’s batting order, reducing them to 58-5 at one point before eliminating them for 233 in 46.4 overs, marking South Africa’s fourth victory in their last five matches.

Although Mahmudullah attempted to propel Bangladesh forward, his 111-run total was insufficient to avert a major defeat. Marco Jansen, who got important wickets early on, hampered Bangladesh’s chase. Key players, including captain Shakib Al Hasan, returned to the pavilion earlier than expected, severely dampening the team’s aspirations.

South Africa will face Pakistan, who have recently suffered their third World Cup defeat at the hands of Afghanistan, in Chennai on October 27. Bangladesh, on the other hand, will play the Netherlands in Kolkata on October 28.
