Stage play on life of Rooplo Kolhi presented in Hyderabad

    A stage play revolving around the life of and contributions of legendary warrior Rooplo Kohli was presented in Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium of Hyderabad on Thursday night.

    Students, social activists, artists, and members of civil society gathered to watch a historical stage play and eulogized the performance of veteran as well as young actors.

    The actors through their remarkable performance took the audience in the 19th century when Rooplo Kohli of Tharparkar fought bravely against British invaders to protect his motherland.

    He laid the forces of his Kolhi tribe who were rebellions and had revolted against British rulers who had invaded South Asia. The brave forces under the leadership of Roploo fought bravely against British forces in the Karoonjhar Mountains and inflicted defeat upon the British Army thrice. led by Col George Tyrwhitt.

    The stage was decorated in a way that looked at the 19th-century village of Nagarparkar and Tharparkar where the eminent warrior of Sindh, ‘s history was born and brought up.

    After Kolhi was arrested by the British Army near the Parkar region of Sindh they put him in prison where he was constantly subjected to brutal torture. The British government demanded he extend an apology along with his tribesmen and disclose the hideouts of his companions, mainly Karan Singh.

    The true son of soil kept braving all agonies instead of surrendering to the intruders and was hanged to death by the British Government near Nagarparkar on 22 August 1858. Rafique Essani, a noted stage and television actor, directed the play that was sponsored by the Bhittai Arts Council.

    Ayaz Latif Palijo, a prominent socio-political figure who watched the play as chief guest during the speech extolled the efforts of Rafique Essani who had taken the initiative of presenting plays related to Sindh, ‘s history, culture, and heritage. He said that the trend of stage plays was facing downfall owing to the inclination of the masses towards social media but Essani and other noted figures of the entertainment industry played a vital role in reviving theatre across Sindh.

    Talib Hussain Mughal played the role of Ruploo Kolhi and earned unparalleled accolades. Besides him, Hajani Premi, Khalid Kaliyar, Aesha Mahek, Samreen Phalasteeni, Rasool Bux Chandio, and Tariq Akash were seen in the main roles. The play was written by seasoned writer Ayoub Gul.
