Surge in chicken prices sparks suspicions of collusion in Lahore market

Chicken prices in Lahore have surged unexpectedly, burdening consumers with higher costs. In just a few days, the price per kilogram of chicken has risen by Rs200, prompting concerns about potential collusion within the chicken industry.

According to officials from the Livestock Department of Punjab, there are indications of collusion among members of the chicken industry, who are suspected of using clandestine WhatsApp groups to manipulate prices.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has expressed serious concerns about this alleged collusion and has promised to take action against those found exploiting consumers.

To address the issue, the Chief Minister has initiated strict measures targeting poultry farmers and traders. Data on stock levels has been requested from these stakeholders to investigate the sudden price increase.

Additionally, the Competition Commission of Pakistan has intervened, recognizing the gravity of the situation. The commission has summoned all relevant stakeholders to explain the significant increase in chicken prices.

This action highlights the government’s commitment to promoting fair market practices and protecting consumer interests.
