New York: During a recent public survey in the United States allegations surfaced regarding China’s purported use of TikTok to shape American public opinion.

According to the latest survey, a majority of Americans believe that China utilizes the short video app TikTok to influence American public opinion.

A joint survey conducted by reputable agencies, Reuters and marketing research multinational firm Ipsos revealed that approximately 58 percent of Americans suspect China’s government of using TikTok to influence American public opinion.

According to the survey conducted last week, 13 percent of Americans do not agree that China uses TikTok to impact Americans while the remaining respondents do not hold a clear opinion on the matter.

At the political level, Republicans are confident that China exploits the app to influence American public opinion amid their rivalry with Democrats.

It is noteworthy that TikTok is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance and recently, the U.S. Congress has passed a bill authorizing sanctions if TikTok remains under Chinese ownership, a law signed by President Biden.

The survey sheds light on growing concerns about the influence of foreign entities particularly China on American public opinion through social media platforms like TikTok.
