T20 World Cup 2024: Bangladesh beats Nepal to reach super eight

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto and his team joined India, Australia, and Afghanistan in Group 1 of the Super Eight after their win in Kingstown, Saint Vincent, and the Grenadines.

Pace bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the star for Bangladesh, taking four wickets for seven runs. Nepal could only score 85 runs in 19.2 overs, failing to reach Bangladesh’s 106 runs in 19.3 overs on a bowler-friendly pitch in the Caribbean.

Shanto praised his bowlers in another low-scoring match, saying, “We are not scoring much, but we know we can defend low totals if we get early wickets.”

Former champions Sri Lanka, who finished third in their group and didn’t advance, ended their run with an 83-run win against the Netherlands in St. Lucia.

Sri Lanka scored 201 for six, with top contributions from Kusal Mendis (46), Charith Asalanka (46), and Angelo Matthews (30 not out). The Netherlands were all out for 118 in 16.4 overs.

Sri Lanka captain Wanindu Hasaranga said, “After two bad games, this win is good for us. The pitch was really good, and we aimed for a score of 160-170.”
