Teachers in Balochistan protest unpaid salaries and pensions

For over four months, teachers at Jamia Balochistan have been staging protests, demanding the release of their overdue salaries and pensions.

The ongoing demonstration underscores the financial hardships faced by educators in the region, as they struggle to make ends meet without timely compensation.

Among the aggrieved educators are those from Balochistan University, the province’s premier educational institution, where teachers have endured a 75-day ordeal awaiting their rightful payments. Despite assurances from government spokespersons that salaries will be disbursed based on performance, teachers remain discontented with the prolonged delay in remuneration.

Educationists in Balochistan emphasize the urgency of addressing the financial crisis plaguing universities, urging the government to take proactive measures to alleviate the hardships faced by educators. While the government acknowledges the need to allocate funds to Balochistan’s 11 universities in the upcoming budget, teachers are adamant that immediate action is imperative to enable them to resume their duties and contribute to the academic welfare of students.

The disparity between the allocation of substantial sums to landlords, juxtaposed with the plight of unpaid teachers, further exacerbates tensions among educators. Despite promises of financial support, the prolonged wait for salaries and pensions has left teachers disillusioned and disheartened.
