Telecom Operators Association rejects tax proposals for IT sector

Islamabad: The Telecom Operators Association has rejected the tax proposals for the IT sector.

The association sent a letter to the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance expressing their concerns and requesting a meeting with Chairman Saleem Mandviwalla to discuss their issues.

The letter stated that the telecom sector played a significant role in collecting 340 billion rupees in taxes last year. Implementation of the new finance bill’s proposals will severely impact an already struggling industry and adversely affect the vision of a Digital Pakistan.

Furthermore, the letter mentioned that the proposed 75% advance tax collection from non-filer telecom users is impractical and will harm the IT sector’s revenues. Increasing the sales tax rate on mobile phones valued up to $500 will negatively affect the inclusion of low-income groups.
