Teri Meri Kahaniyaan- an anthology of films.

‘Teri Meri Kahaniyaan, a highly
anticipated feature film produced by
See Prime, is set to captivate audiences
with its star-studded cast and diverse
storytelling.’

The most renowned writers and
filmmakers have come forward with this
anthology of films.

Dingy, dark alleys, the tinker bells of
marriage festivities, the groom running
around in a phata hua kurta and a man
and woman on a romantic train journey,
the 3 stories run parallel to each other,
completely disparate yet tied together
by a single cinematic title ‘Teri mere
kahaaniyan.’

Its a novel concept where the audience
enjoys the experience of watching 3
films within one ticket. All three films

offer a distinct aroma that gratify to the
varied taste of the audience.

However, the time constraint acts as an
obstacle to do justice to the stories.

There is no time to bring in multiple
dance performances or comic scenes.

Yet the filmmakers ensure that the
characters are well rounded and the
plot strong enough to keep the
audience hooked. They make sure that
within the limited time they can send the
message across profoundly.

Teri Meri Kahaniyaan is a Lollywood film
released in 2023. It has received a
rating of 7.7/10 on imdb. A hum tv
production, it is divided into 3 parts.

The first part titled ‘Jinn Ghar’ is about a
poor family who are looking for a
shelter, where they can rest and sleep.
The protagonists are a married couple,
Mumtaz (Hira Mani) and
Shahnshah(Mani). It falls into the genre
of comedy\ horror. Directed by Nabeel

Qureshi the gist of the short film is how
poverty can make man resort to
measures that are extreme and wrong.

As Shahnshah and his wife settle in a
dilapidated and ancient house to
escape the bhoot Bangla they once
resided in, they use the excuse of this
house being haunted as and working it
in their favour.

The name Shahnshah is ironic.

Shahnshah mean emperor and
Shahnshah here is hardly an emperor.

He belongs to the lowest class in
hierarchy and is coerced into dwelling in
the house owned by an elite karachiite
woman. Will Shahnshah (Mani) be able
to convince the owner of his innocence
and urgency or will the woman turn him
in to the police for illegal occupation of
the house? Watch the film to find out!
Shifting focus onto the setting, it is
phenomenal. How the house has been
portrayed is definitely a sure short case

of it being haunted. The audience slips
into wild laughter as the dadi becomes
the bhoot and scares people to death.

This is a moment of comic relief.

A poignant scène in the film is when the
children play in the rain and Shahnshah
remarks on how his unemployment had
robbed his children of small moments of
happiness. Seeing them play in the rain
and scream with joy brings tears in
Shahnshah’s eyes. The audience hearts
melts too.

The only complaint I have of the first
part is that it is too sombre. There is
enough mellow drama going on in the
lives of the spectators so why burden
them with more. The entire idea of
watching a film is to escape reality and
be transported into a world of fantasy.
The films should provide light hearted
entertainment rather than focusing on
the bitter reality of life!

The second part is titled ‘Pasoori.’ For
sometime I couldn’t understand if the
film had ended and this was only a
commercial. It is when 15 minutes
passed that I realised that the
production had been split into three
different stories! Directed by Marina
Khan, Salman (Shehryar Munawar) and
Remesa (Ramsha Khan) play the leads
here.

As the 2 star crossed lovers are finally
tying the knot, an unfortunate incident
occurs that will turn their lives upside
down. What happens is for you to watch
and find out! But the message the film is
trying to send across is definitely deep.

What happens on the day of the
wedding? What is so grave that the
wedding is put into jeopardy? Yes! It is
Remessa’s career that is on the brink of
elimination. How?

How the romantic pair handles the
situation is an eye opener for all women

and men out there. Women need not
sacrifice always. Sometimes the man
needs to take a stance. The film
showcases the opposite of male
chauvinism and a patriarchal mindset.

Marriage is not between 2 people but a
communion between 2 families. Both
Remessa and Salman understand the
importance of marriage and hence both
are willing to forgo their ego. Both stand
by each other. And this is what the film
is trying to tell the audience!

The colourful and adorned dresses, the
execution of dance and the entire
wedding setup adds to the festive mood
that turns grave as Remessa runs away
to fulfill her dreams and Salman tries to
pacify his angry father.

The final part is called 'Aik So Teeswan.’
Directed by Nadeem Baig it has the
stunning Mehwish Hyatt (Sadaf) and

Wahaj Ali (Asad), Paksitan’s most well
loved hero.

Mehvish Hayat looks beautiful in a
loosely tied braid and dressed in a
maroon ajrak saari typical of Karachi.

The 2 meet on a train journey and their
ignites a spark between them. Asad and
Sadaf are both going through an
emotional turmoil. Asad plans to divorce
his wife and Sadaf’s husband is
cheating on her which she is pretty
much aware of but pretends to not know
anything. Asad is smitten by Sadaf’s
beauty and makes a sketch of her.

Sadaf opens up about her life to Asad
taunting on the sketch Asad has drawn.

She says before marriage her husband
found her attractive but after it she was
just like a painting to him.

The pair talks in poetic prose. Zahid
Ahmed is Sadaf’s possessive and
jealous husband. The film dwells on the
truth about men. They can have

multiple affairs but when it comes to the
wife she is his property. Asad asks a
potent question. Why does Sadaf put up
with her husband?

Like all women, Sadaf too is afraid it’ll
become a habit! Hopping from one man
onto another!

The third part is perhaps the most
impactful. The beauty of dialogue
combined with the physical allure of
Mehwish Hyatt, makes the film all the
more appealing.

Teri Meri Kahaaniyan is a remarkable
concept in the Pakistan film industry. It
entwines the serious with the absurd,
hence forming a correct balance of
humour, wit and gravity!
