TikTok adopts content credentials to label AI-generated content

On Thursday, TikTok announced its adoption of “Content Credentials,” a digital watermarking technology developed by Adobe.

This technology aims to label images and videos created by artificial intelligence (AI) systems.

The initiative, also supported by OpenAI, seeks to address concerns regarding the potential misuse of AI-generated content, particularly in relation to misinformation during elections.

Platforms like YouTube and Meta Platforms (owner of Instagram and Facebook) have also committed to implementing Content Credentials.

For the system to be effective, both the AI tool creator and the platform must agree to use the standard.

TikTok, amidst legal battles in the US, is taking steps to label AI-generated content uploaded to its platform, in line with its existing policies against unlabeled realistic AI content.
