Interfaith Harmony Week: Students take lead in giving message of tolerance

More than 25 students from different universities visited various religious places to celebrate Interfaith Harmony Week

Through the platform of the Provincial Department of Human Rights and Minority Affairs and the Youth Development Foundation, students of different faiths visited various religious places in Lahore to promote religious harmony in connection with the World Interfaith Harmony Week.

The delegation comprising more than 25 students from different universities and different religions – Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Hindu etc. – visited Badshahi Mosque, Gurdwara Shahi Qila, Krishna Temple and Church of Praying Hands to promote religious harmony and brotherhood.

The Youth Development Foundation, which has played a role in this visit, is a non-governmental organization working for educating the youth.

The young delegation sowed a plant called ‘Plant for Peace’ to emphasize the need for keeping the environment clean.

Youth Development Foundation Executive Director Shahid Rehmat stated to Minute Mirror that the volunteers were from different religions.

He added, “This programme was announced through the Department of Human Rights and Minority Affairs and we asked [volunteers] if they wanted to go. Everyone agreed.”

“Following the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan, in order to ensure the prevention of environmental pollution, we have to do more. The government cannot do this alone; everyone has to perform their proactive role,” said Rehmat

The delegation lauded the Punjab government’s initiative for religious harmony and said that it was a great opportunity to show the world that followers of all religions in Pakistan were completely free in their worship.

The students took group photos with other people while visiting various religious places.
