Two new ‘Lord of the Rings’ films to hit theaters

In 2026, Warner Bros Discovery plans to release a new installment in the iconic “Lord of the Rings” film series, one of the most successful franchises ever.

This new film, along with another announced by CEO David Zaslav, features Andy Serkis reprising his role as Gollum and directing the first movie titled “Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.”

Peter Jackson, the director of the original trilogy and the subsequent “Hobbit” movies, will be a producer for these new films.

Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books, set in the fantastical realm of Middle-earth, the franchise has amassed nearly $6 billion in global box office revenue.

The franchise’s 2003 installment, “Return of the King,” won 11 Oscars, including Best Picture.

Additionally, an animated film titled “The War of the Rohirrim” is set to premiere in theaters this December.
