UNGA passes resolution granting new rights to Palestine

The U.N. General Assembly passed a resolution on Friday, granting Palestine new rights and privileges and urging the Security Council to reconsider its request for full United Nations membership.

The resolution, sponsored by Arab and Palestinian representatives, received overwhelming support, with 143 countries voting in favor, 9 against, and 25 abstaining.

This decision was seen as a significant victory for Palestine, with President Mahmoud Abbas expressing gratitude for the global support.

Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza remains dire, with the United Nations warning of potential aid shortages as Israeli forces escalate their ground offensive into the city of Rafah.

Residents describe intense fighting between Israeli troops and militant groups, putting thousands of civilians at risk and disrupting humanitarian operations.
