US Diplomats kick off ICC T20 World Cup 2024 countdown at KCU

US diplomats, led by Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) Andrew Schofer, introduced the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 West Indies and USA Countdown Clock at Kinnaird College University’s historic cricket ground on Saturday, marking the commencement of the tournament in five weeks.

The unveiling ceremony saw the presence of notable US officials, including Kristin Hawkins, US Consul General in Lahore, Conrad Tribble, US Consul General in Karachi, and Shante Moore, US Consul General in Peshawar, alongside Dr. Rukhsana David, the principal of Kinnaird College.

The event, supported by Ali Khan Tareen’s Lodhran Pilot Project (LPP), highlighted the fervent love Pakistani fans have for cricket and coincided with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophy’s arrival in Lahore, displayed at the Gaddafi Stadium during the Pakistan New Zealand T20I match.

Alongside the unveiling, the diplomats engaged in an exhibition cricket match against a team of young female cricketers from Southern Punjab, representing Ali Khan Tareen’s team, showcasing their commitment to fostering the future of women’s cricket in Pakistan.

Reflecting on the day’s events, DCM Schofer commended Kinnaird College for Women University and the LPP for empowering young women through sports, emphasizing the importance of celebrating the upcoming World Cup and learning from the enthusiasm of the young athletes.
