US-Pakistani Philanthropist Tanweer Ahmed honored with ‘Hilal-e-Imtiaz’ and ‘Pride of Pakistan’ awards

US-Pakistani philanthropist Tanweer Ahmed has been honored by President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday with Pakistan’s second-highest civilian award, the “Hilal-e-Imtiaz,” and the title “Pride of Pakistan.”

This recognition was bestowed upon him for his significant contributions to Pakistan’s development and for fostering stronger ties between Pakistan and the United States of America.

Tanweer Ahmed, a successful businessman based in the US, has played a pivotal role in supporting various educational, medical, and social causes in Pakistan through his philanthropy. His efforts have also contributed to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting peace in the region.

Noteworthy among his contributions are a $9 million donation to NUST, assistance to flood victims, and the establishment of a free dialysis center in Sialkot.

In addition to being honored with the “Hilal-e-Imtiaz,” Tanweer Ahmed was also recognized under the “Pride of Pakistan” category for his philanthropic endeavors, including support for mosques, schools, and flood victims.

The ceremony, held at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad, was attended by dignitaries including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif.

COAS General Munir previously commended Ahmed for his generous donation of $9 million towards the construction of an IT Tower at NUST. He praised Ahmed for his contributions during natural disasters and for his efforts to promote IT education in Pakistan.

In recognition of his services to the IT and health sectors, the Indus University conferred an honorary doctorate degree on Ahmed.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Tanweer Ahmed affirmed his commitment to furthering understanding and cultural ties between the US and Pakistan. He expressed his deep connection to both countries, stating that he was born in Pakistan, where he received his education before establishing himself in the US. He pledged to continue his efforts to serve both nations.
