USA triumphs over Canada by 7 wickets: T20 World Cup 2024

The USA claimed a dominant victory over Canada in the T20 World Cup opener held at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas last Sunday. This win places the co-hosts at the summit of the points table, securing two points. Their upcoming test will be against Pakistan at the same venue on Thursday, June 6.

Meanwhile, Canada will seek their first points when they go up against Ireland on Friday at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The next match in Group A is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, between India and Ireland in New York.

In today’s World Cup opener, Canada, batting first, posted a total of 194 runs, losing five wickets in the process.

Navneet Dhaliwal scored 61 runs from 44 deliveries, including six fours and three sixes. Nicholas Kirton also contributed 51 runs from 31 deliveries, featuring three fours and two sixes.

In response, the USA comfortably chased down the target in 17.4 overs, thanks to stellar performances by Aaron Jones, who notched up 94 runs from just 40 deliveries with four boundaries and ten towering sixes, and Andries Gous, who added 65 runs from 46 deliveries , including seven fours and three sixes.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the super eights, which will consist of 12 matches, before the top two from each super eight group proceed to the semi-finals. The final showdown will take place in Barbados on June 29.
