VC forms high-level committee to probe into IBU scandal

The administration of the Islamia University Bahawalpur (IBU) has set up a high-level investigative committee on the directives of Vice-Chancellor Engineer Professor Dr Attaur Rehman Mahboob after the arrest of two university officers on allegations of drug use and sale. The committee, headed by Professor Dr Rao Saeed Ahmed, Chairman Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, includes members such as Professor Dr Muhammad Amjad, Dean Faculty of Engineering, Professor Dr Saeed Ahmed Bazdar, Director Institute of Physics, Muhammad Bilal Arshad, Additional Registrar Litigation. This committee will comprehensively investigate the allegations against both officers and scrutinize all available digital, physical, and other evidence. The committee members will present a detailed report after impartially and transparently assessing all aspects of the matter and will recommend disciplinary actions if the allegations are proven.

According to the notification, Treasurer Professor Dr Abu Bakar and Chief Security Officer Major Syed Ejaz Hussain Shah have been suspended until the investigations are completed. Additionally, the Higher Education Department of South Punjab has also formed a joint investigative committee in connection with this scandal. This committee, headed by Dr Fareed Sharif, Director of Public Instructions Colleges, South Punjab, includes other members like Professor Dr. Muhammad Amjad, Dean Faculty of Engineering, Professor Dr Saeed Ahmed Bazdar, Director of Institute of Physics, Muhammad Bilal Arshad, Additional Registrar Litigation. This committee will present its recommendations to the Secretary of Higher Education, South Punjab, within three days.

The Pakistan Saraiki Party has demanded a high-level judicial inquiry into this shameful scandal at the Islamia University Bahawalpur. The party expressed its reaction to the scandal, stating that due to incidents like these, the prestigious educational institution of Searaki land has become a subject of ridicule worldwide. They stressed the need for an immediate inquiry into this matter and strict punishment for those involved.

Furthermore, the party also highlighted the possibility of a conspiracy to malign women’s education and awareness in Saraki land by circulating inappropriate videos of thousands of girls through social media and other means. Therefore, they urged a thorough investigation to unveil the facts behind this matter. The Pakistan Saraki Party expressed its readiness to cooperate fully with Islamia University for any possible assistance in this regard.
