WhatsApp introduces speaker spotlight feature for users

New York: Meta has made video calling easier for WhatsApp users by updating the app with a new feature.

According to a report by a foreign news agency, WhatsApp has introduced screen sharing with audio support and a new Speaker Spotlight feature for the web version.

Reports indicate that the new Speaker Spotlight update has the ability to automatically highlight the user speaking on a video call making them appear first on the screen. Additionally, the platform has increased the number of participants in a video call to 32.

According to reports, WhatsApp’s parent company Meta has also introduced the Meta Low Bitrate (M Low) codec feature on the app which aims to improve call quality on older devices.

This feature is already available for Instagram and Messenger calls and now it is being rolled out on WhatsApp as well. This new update will be available to users in the coming weeks.

It is worth mentioning that WhatsApp is also introducing a useful feature for users that will make transferring chat history between devices much easier.

To transfer data from one device to another, WhatsApp currently uses chat backup which requires users to create a data backup on cloud services like Google Drive or iCloud. However, transferring data between iOS and Android is quite challenging.

Keeping this in mind, WhatsApp is adding a feature called Transfer Chat History which will use QR codes to transfer chat data from one device to another.
