Customs seizes 255kg of opium from Gwadar

Building further on its drive against smuggling, Pakistan Customs on Tuesday conducted yet another successful operation.

Acting on credible information, ASO team of Collectorate of Customs, Gwadar, seized 255kg of opium from Ganz after a long chase. During patrolling, Customs staff spotted a car around Jiwani which was signaled to stop for a search. However, the driver of the vehicle accelerated but was followed and intercepted at Ganz. Taking advantage of darkness, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled away.

A thorough search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of 255kg of opium. The recovered narcotics was shifted to Customs House, Gwadar. The Collectorate has lodged an FIR against unidentified persons and legal proceedings have been initiated. The seized narcotics are valued at Rs80 million in the international market.

It is pertinent to mention here that Federal Board of Revenue is pursuing a policy of zero tolerance against smuggling and has increased vigilance and surveillance of cargo movement across the border.

Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has commended FBR for its successful anti-smuggling drive across Pakistan. Likewise, Chairman FBR/Secretary Revenue Division, Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed has appreciated Member Customs (Ops) FBR, Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, in ensuring zero tolerance against smuggling.
