83 journalists of Pakistan take firm stand for Nomaika Ashfaque Satti

Nighat Dad, a lawyer, feminist, and digital rights activist, posted on X (formerly Twitter) that “83 journalists signed Pakistan’s Network of Women Journalists for Digital Rights @NWJDR statement against domestic violence, condemning the alleged case of domestic violence committed by TV anchor & demanding state to take different measures to address this menace.”

Notable are the efforts of Rabia Anum Obaid, a TV host, and a journalist, who have been vocal and supporting the victim since the start.

To summarize, journalists have put forward five demands:

    1) Media outlets to investigate and act against guilty individuals.

    2) Law enforcement to handle cases seriously, without bias.

    3) National Commission of Human Rights to intervene and hold perpetrators accountable.

    4) Press clubs and journalist unions to prioritize safety over protecting accused individuals.

    5) Government to provide free psychological assistance and medical treatment for victims.

This statement comes in the wake of a recent domestic violence case that surfaced on social media. Journalist Ashfaque Ishaque Satti was recently exposed as a violent domestic abuser by his wife Nomaika Ashfaque Satti.

Nomaika took to social media to expose her husband, by posting photos of her heavily injured body and pleading for justice.

Notably, Ashfaque Satti has been suspended by the private news channel that he worked with, following the abuse allegations.
