German researchers state that they are not ready for the unavoidable; thousands of Omicron infections daily, giving a measure of the level of the new variant of Coronavirus.

Senior German experts stated in an online press conference that the Omicron infections were definitely going to strike very soon and time was of the essence.

According to a report in Deutsche Welle, an immunologist in Freiburg stated that Omicron would probably transform into the leading version of COVID by January 2022, exceeding the Delta version, which to date has become the most contagious variant since the start of the pandemic.

He further foresaw a meteoric rise in contamination, potentially upto thousands daily.

This hopeless prediction has been calculated upon global data that German scientists have access to. An example can be give of Great Britain, where Omicron cases are exceeding by a factor of two every two or three days.

A physicist in Berlin states that the UK cases are up to four times greater than contamination rates involving previous strains.

British researchers guess that the contaminations from the new variant could jack up to a maximum of 700,000 infections daily.

They fear that up to 34 million people could be swept by the contagion between the current month and April 2022, even if there were checks like social isolation, use of preventive measures, school vacations or any other.

He stated that political leaders have to take measures urgently, make emergency schemes for various contingencies followed by their practice.

German researchers state that groups will have to isolate themselves and curb their mobility, like they did during the initial period of lockdowns.

The new COVID strain is more contagious than any previously detected strain, and it also does not come into the grasp of human immune functions. This implies that people who have had double doses of the vaccine in addition to receiving boosts were still susceptible to being contaminated.

This means that Omicron was potentially as threatening as previous strains of COVID.

Researchers have sounded the alarm that if contamination rates continuously increase meteorically, health facilities may break down. A case in point is the UK where admission of a maximum of 5000 patients would hamper the government mechanism severely.

At the moment many health facilities are trying to cope and they will be unable to take in a lot of new entrants, which would enhance the danger of contaminating medical staff in addition.
