PM terms approval of National Security Policy historic

Premier says security of citizens as crucial as security of Pakistan

In a first, Pakistan approved the National Security Policy 2022-2026 on Monday with Prime Minister Imran Khan calling the moment “historic”.

The Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement that the policy gained approval at the 36th meeting of the National Security Committee, headed by the prime minister.

In attendance were federal ministers for Defence, Information and Broadcasting, Foreign Affairs, Finance and Human Rights.

Moreover, senior civil and military leaders, along with the national security adviser were in attendance.

National Security Adviser Moeed Yusuf pointed that Pakistan was moving towards a “comprehensive national security framework”.

The NSA stated that the main goal of national security was to ensure, through a framework, the safety, security and dignity of Pakistan.

In the meeting today, the premier stressed on the fact that the security of the country’s citizens was as crucial as the security of Pakistan, and the country was ready to deal with threats emerging from within and without.

Furthermore, the prime minster said the police must be a beacon for all departments of the government, and their efforts should be in line with the direction of the NSP.

The premier also instructed the national security adviser to present a progress report on the implementation of the policy to the NSC on a monthly basis.
